I never really thought about it having a number, but now that i think about it it is kinda weird. Then again what makes the other games deserve numbers? maybe that is the question that should be asked. Maybe XI fits the criteria to get a number.

I don't know why its called XI. I know when i heard of it...and the played it. I liked the game, but def. shouldn't be called XI, cuz its not story driven....Really, I couldn't tell you a main staple of story about that game, cuz really it wasn't built on that. Why is it called World of Warcraft and not Warcraft 4? hmmmm...same thing? |

All I'm saying is, it came after 10, and it is a Final Fantasy and that is reason enough for it to be XI. Every FF has been different in many ways... It may not fit what you would consider to be a FF game, but apparently for SE(and me) it does. It has everything any other FF has ever had and a lot more. I dont care either way, I would play it if it was just FF online or if it wasnt even called FF at all. btw, it is hugely story driven like most Final Fantasy games. |

I'm not saying anything about the quality of the game, i'm saying it shouldn't be in the mainstream series. it should be called FF: Online because all the rest of the main series are all single player games...Crystal chronicals has more to do with the main series than FFXI.

It just as deserving of a number as VII or X or IX or XIII. It's an FF Independant of other installments, and it's the 11th. And no, Crystal Chronicles doesn't have more to do with the main series than FFXI; all of the Final Fantasy installments with numbers are completely and utterly different, so it can hardly be said that CC has more to do with FF than FFXI when really, they're like independant games. |

XI is none of those, therefore it shouldn't be a number, at least in my opinion. |

The same reason they number any of them, Pinky...TO TRY TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD...!!!
![]() They didn't call FFIII FF: Job Class Challenge, FFVII FF: Materia Madness, or FFVIII FF: Junctioning Jamboree! They changed an aspect of gameplay...sure, that included a genre shift, but big deal. If anything, they should have INCLUDED FFTactics into the numbered series...but anyways, who cares? It's a goddamn NUMBER! How does it's name change anything? "What's in a name? A rose...etc" as they say, right? |

I'm not sure why everyone is getting the knickers in a knot over a titling issue.
I agree with the minority on this one. I believe this game is completely deserving of it's current title for a number of reasons. 1. It came after 10 and before 12. Considering that Square sticks with integer values, 11 seems to be the logical choice, the only choice. 2. It does have a storyline, like the other games, which can be experienced through playing the in-game missions. 3. The differences, being online, non solo and having a monthly fee, don't make the game so entirely different that it needs to be exiled from the series. At the end of the day it's just a title. If they called it Final Fantasy Online, well I wouldn't develop a hernia over it. To me, "Final Fantasy XI: Online", as a title, tells me everything I need to know. - I know that it was released between X and XII. - It's an online game. I still think that's the critical basis of what a title is intended to be. This debate is "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" all over again! |
