Default Getting to Faction specific missions in Guild Wars: Factions

Where's the Preview event faction fun?
When Factions was announced, everyone was pretty impressed with the ability to choose a side to work with, gaining faction points. Your faction can be used to gain special rewards, or passed to your Guild (or Alliance) to take control of a town or outpost, or - most importantly - get access to Elite missions.

It all looks pretty good. But then you get bogged down in the endless twisty turning mazes of the city streets, never an end in site. How big is Kaineng City? I want to escape! Where's the good stuff we saw in the preview? Where's the faction rewards and faction battles?

I've compiled a list of the missions you need to take, plus some shortcuts. I'm afraid the shortcuts are pretty focussed on the Luxons - mainly because my main character has sided with them. Giant siege turtles are cool, petrified-tree hugging goths are not ;-)

The main centres for the Luxons and the Kurzicks are Cavalon and House zu Heltzer, respectively.

Here's the list of missions you need to take, showing where you can get them from, and where they take you:

Quest: Welcome To Cantha (get this in Bejunkan Pier, takes you to Vizunah Square)
Mission: Vizunah Square Local/Foreign (takes you to Dragon’s Throat)
Quest: Finding the Oracle (get this in Dragon’s Throat, takes you to Nahpui Quarter)
Mission: Nahpui Quarter (takes you to Senji’s Corner)
Quest: To Tahnnakai Temple (get this in Senji’s Corner, takes you to Tahnnakai Temple)
Mission: Tahnnakai Temple (takes you to Zin Ku Corridor)
Quest: Meeting with The Emperor (get this in Zin Ku Corridor, takes you to Tahnnakai Temple explorable)
Quest: The Count’s Daughter (get this in Zin Ku Corridor, takes you to Maatu Keep)
Quest: The Count’s Daughter continued (updated outside Maatu Keep, takes you to Tanglewood Copse)
Quest: The Count’s Daughter continued (updated outside Tanglewood Copse, takes you to Arborstone)
Mission: Arborstone (takes you to Altrumm Ruins)
Quest: The Convocation (get this in Altrumm Ruins, takes you to Boreas Seabed)
Mission: Boreas Seabed (takes you to Zos Shivros Channel)
Quest: City Under Attack (get this in Zos Shivros Channel, takes you to Maatu Keep)
Quest: Battle in the Sewers (get this in Maatu Keep, takes you to Sunjiang District)
Mission: Sunjiang District

Once you've worked your way through that, you'll be back at Maatu Keep. Here, you want to have a word with Jamei, who will offer you two quests:

Journey to Cavalon
Journey to House zu Heltzer
Bear in mind that, at this stage, you will already have been to Altrumm Ruins and Zos Shivros Channel. These are the two

'jumping off' points for the two factions.

Once you take one of the above missions, go to either Zos Shivros Channel or Altrumm Ruins, and talk to the guard who is near the entrance to Cavalon/House zu Heltzer.

Tada! You'll now have access to the Faction capitals. At this stage you can start exploring faction territory, doing faction missions, and generally having some fun. First you need to do the Befriend the Luxon/Kurzick mission, which requires you to gain 10,000 faction (by doing other faction missions).

Shortcuts:
Now, let's say you're stuck on one of the missions, or you're tired of Kaineng City and want to get into the action early.

There are two missions available in Maatu Keep from Sekai the Mapmaker:

Charting the Forests
Charting the Jade Sea
These missions make you visit 5 different areas in 4 different districts in the Jade Sea/Forests. They are *excellent* for using to explore, and to also find a back door to Cavalon and House Zu Heltzer.

Although the way to the capitals from the jumping off points is blocked, when you explore the surrounding area you can still find the entrances to Cavalon and House Zu Heltzer. Enter, they get put on the map, and you can jump straight to them.

For example. leave Zos Shivros Channel, head back in the direction of Boreas Seabed. You can then move across into Mount Qinkai. Here you should be able to discover the Luxon Aspenwood Gate (for some competitive PvP action). Head down into the Archipelagos - not only can you find the Luxon Jade Flats (more PvP) but also the entrance to Cavalon.

From this point you can start doing missions and earning faction. You'll also have access to the two competitive PvP missions, which can be great fun. However, until you have completed Journey to Cavalon/House zu Heltzer, you can't complete Befriend the Luxons/Kurzicks.

For the Befriend .. mission, you need 10,000 faction - so it doesn't make much sense to collect and spend it all until you've done this.

This 'backdoor' into the capitals does give you a good chance to explore Cantha (work on that Title!) and also means that when you do finally complete the missing storyline missions, you can insta-complete your Befriend mission.

Anyway, this should give you a break from the sometimes monotonous trips through Kaineng City, and will give you a chance to have some of the fun that we saw in the Factions preview.

Cheers,

Monster
