In RS, players are known by their combat level. Combat is fighting a monster or NPC to obtain its “drop”. Drops are the key to making money in RS. There are three different ways to fight against others: Ranging(using a Bow and Arrows), Maging or Magic(using runes to cast both offensive and defensive spells), and simply with a weapon.

There are several good places to fight monsters in the free worlds. You should find a location that is not swarming with other players. If someone starts K’sering you, ask them to stop. In multi-combat area, take every single kill that is available by fighting one monster and maging another before your original dies. You can also attack one monster until it is more than half way out of life, stop fighting and attack another.

If you are going to use combat to make money you are going to have to increase your level in this skill. In fighting, the important thing is not what the monster drops, but what your profit from fighting is. Always fight in a place where you can sustain yourself for long periods of time with the food you have. A quick way to get your level up is training at the Barbarian Village. Just keep killing Barbarians and eating food until you reach the mid 30’s for your combat level.

Another creature that is good to battle at these low levels is the Dark Wizards south of Varrock. Simply collecting Big Bones is another thing you can do if you are lower leveled. One of the most popular and rewarding creatures to fight are the Hill giants located in the Edgeville Dungeon. The easiest way to get down there is through the small house located between Varrock and the Barbarian Village. By kicking the backsides of the Hill Giants, you can get the big bones, limpwurts, various steel items, and gems.

If you are running low on food, pick up trouts droped by fisherman. Then you would seek out Moss Giants or Mossies who can drop better rewards. They are located in the Varrock Sewers and Crandor Isle, and the Wilderness. Going to Varrock Sewers is easier, you should bring a slashing weapon. You will need to bring food depending on your level. Mossies are level 42 and should be easy to handle for a level 50 or higher. Once you are finished with Mossies it is time to move on to Ice Giants. These are located in the Wilderness around level 47 and the Ice Giant Dungeon south of Port Sarim. Ice giants can drop anywhere from 4 to 6 at a time. You will also have to deal with Ice Warriors. For free players, once you are above level 70, take the boat again to Karamja. You will face the Lesser Demons. Blast them with some defensive reducing magic if you have it, or use a Silverlight or Darklight and then beat them down into an ash pile.

For members, the options to make cash using combat are vast and varied. Straight out combat has a financial advantage over Ranging and Maging due to the fact that you are not required to buy supplies to maintain your attacking ability. There are some very specific monsters and techniques and skills that can make you a million a day or more at the more advanced levels. One of the great things about being a high level fighter is that you get the opportunity to fight against Dragons, Demons and Monsters of all sorts. The best dragons to train on and make gp at the same time are Blue, Green, and Metal Dragons. Black and King Black Dragons are great to fight against as well. Green dragons are one of the best creatures that a high level can fight to make loads of gp. They are located at four different places in the Wilderness. You should come prepared to deal with Pker’s.

I suggest that you fight the dragons located at level 13 to 24 wilderness. Don’t stay and fight the pker’s. Bring enough food with you according to your level. For armor, bring just the basics. Stock up on the shields when Duke Horacil give them to you. If you happen to get entangled by Mage Pker’s, turn on magic “Protect Item”. The Level 24 Wilderness Green Dragons have many opportunities for Rangers to make kills. Take your best Dragon Hide gear, a Magic Bow and Bronze arrows. You can hide behind Dead Trees after you first shot at the Dragon. Blue Dragons can be found in Taverley Dungeon. Do not try to hally dragons with anything less than a Dragon Halberd. The other great location for Fighting Blue Dragons is the Hero’s Guild Basement. Just stand outside the door of the cage and fire or slash away. Be care for the noobs.

Another option is to fight the dragon inside the cage. Remember that all Dragons have the chance of dropping Level 3 Clue Scrolls for the Treasure Trails. Metal Dragons are deep in the Karamja Dragon Dungeon southwest of Brimhaven. To get there you need to have some agility skill and woodcutting skills. You can get Dragon Armor by fighting them. There are basically two methods of fighting the Metal’s. One is melee. The other is using Magic. They respectively have advantages and disadvantages. It is up to you to make your choose. If you are going to use Magic to fight the Dragons, you will be relying solely on your Magic and Potions to get the job done. Do not try to melee the Dragon and do not let him catch you unaware. Bring the best magic equipment and magic gear you have.

Make sure you are in one of the indentations along the wall of dungeon before you start maging the Dragon. Be sure to drink your Antifire potion before the Dragon attacks you using his Fireball. You have the choice of what type of magic spells to use. The bolt spells will use up more runes. The price difference between Chaos and Death runes may allow you to come out ahead when using the Chaos based spells. Also bring along 2 Law and 2 Water runes for a quick teleport out to Ardougne. Once you arrive at the Metal Dragon area of the dungeon, you will have a choice to make. Unless you are a very high level(95 and above), you should stick with the Bronze Dragons until you get the hang of fighting them. Once you feel comfortable with Bronze move up to the Iron Dragons.

Stick with the Bronze and the Iron, you will get what you are looking for. Check your equipments in detail before starting off. Experiment and see what works best for you. Once you have double checked everything and are ready to go, drink your Antifire potion, turn on your “Protection fron Melee” and go fight that beast toe to toe. Perhaps the best way to fight the Metal Dragons is similar to Fighting the Blue Dragons with your Halberd. Jagex has indicated that the drop rate for Dragon legs is: Bronze Dragons 1 in 100, Iron Dragons 1 in 75 and Steel Dragons 1 in 50.

As a member you have the opportunity to fight RuneScape Fire Giant. They can be found in 4 different locations. If you have lost or misplaced Glarial’s amulet then you can get a new one by doing a quest. Get the necklaces and go to find the rooms in which you can fight the Fire Giants. What gear you bring and where you stand is really the most important thing when fighting in these rooms. I would either recommend using a Dragon Halberd or Ranging in this dungeon.

If you want to fight the Giants toe to toe(not recommended), you should be a higher level and bring a bunch of food. There are a few safe spots to fight Fire Giants in the Brimhaven dungeon. You may have to switch worlds a few times to find a place that does not have much competition.

Killing Troll Generals is similar to the methods used in killing the Fire Giants. You must have started the Troll Stronghold quest and completed about half of it. Once you get up the places where you can block the Troll General, ask around or just observe and you will see the Safe Places to attack from. You can also fight the Troll Generals inside the Troll Stronghold. The slayer skill is another area where you may make great cash. At Slayer skill level 65 you can kill Dust Devils in the Smoke Dungeon which will occasionally drop Dragon Chain. At Slayer skill level 75, Gargoyles are on the menu. Rune boots are dropped at Slayer Level 80. Abyssal Whip at level 80. Dark Bow at Level 90. Dust Devils are the only monster other than the Kalphite Queen that drops Dragon Chain Body.

For most players Dust Devils are the best opportunity of becoming an overnight multi-millionaire. You will need a Slayer level of 65 to kill Dust Devils. Be sure to equip your Dragonstone Ring for a higher probability of getting the Dragon Chain Body. To melee Dust Devils you really should have the Bones to Peaches spell. You will also need to wear a face mask at all times. The trick with Dust Devils is to find the maximum distance that they can travel and stand at the edge of that location to attack them. The other strategy involves fighting them at right angles.

Once your inventory is filled up go to the Carpet Merchant hub and fly to Nardah and Bank there are necessary. Head north from the bank and you can pray at the shrine to recharge your prayer and increase your HP. Another Slayer creature that is really worth killing is the Abyssal Demon. They are level 124 with 150 hit points. To melee these Demons bring your best armor and a full load of food or better yet bring your Full Guthans to heal(if have). Food is better to use than prayer potions because of the cost and the low hitting characteristics of the Abyssal Demons. If ranging be sure to use a crystal bow.

It is best to bring Full Guthans as well to heal so that you can maximize your time with the Demons. Be sure to bring plenty of high alch runes. Remember , you are here to get an Abyssal Whip. There are several areas that have Greater Demons. One of the safest spots to fight both Black Demons and Greater Demons is in the Brimhaven Dungeon. Be sure to use your Silverlight or Darklight if you are a lower level player with the Greater Demons. Both high level and intermediate level players should use the Silverlight or Darklight with the Black Demons.
